Reported on the Secular Student Alliance website is a rather concerning story regarding the hacking and deletion of the largest online group of Atheists and agnostics in the world. Story link here.
Following my last post I am thoroughly depressed that and I have the Birthday blues.

Disturbing to say the least.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I just read about this from my MySpace page. It's very disturbing and I hope atheists on MySpace will organize a response to this. I'll be helping if I can.
Happy Birthday and get out of the funk!
Happy birthday
got the birthday blues Jeezus h your only in your thirties
go fill a didgeridoo with weed and smoke it.
Is there no one out there that could start a similar networking site, for crysts sake if the idiots can start god tube then someone somewhere must be skilled enough on the keyboard to create something rather than relying on coorperations that will sell out ideals for revenue.
Oh please oh please oh please don't let this be some happy clappy that thinks he is doing the right thing.
Happy birthday!!!!!
I lovelovelove birthdays. Mainly because it beats the alternative but really just love having a reason to celebrate. not that I need a reason to celebrate if I really want to!!!
Happy Birthday!
It's Hannah's Birthday tomorrow :)
so the poor little Christians are scared of a few atheists on MySpace - get a life!
I have a few thoughts on what can be done about this and have started spreading them around.
Happy Birthday, by the way
Hmph... I'm not surprised, Facebook was banning photos of women breastfeeding infants. Life is just going to hell in a handbasket with all the boobies and free-thinkers that are cluttering up the internet! ;-) I am having one of those days where I am just fed up with mainstream America! Tired of big business, religion, politics the whole gamut! A friend of mine has been tempting me with communal living in a beautiful monastery that is for sale in Tuscan part of Italy. Aaaah, to live the simple, quiet life. Wouldn't be ironic to have a bunch of agnostic/ athiests living in an old monastery?!? Those monks would be turning over in their graves!
Oh yeah! Happy Birthday! My little man turned the big 6 today and I celebrated mine last week (however, I tried to ignore mine, keep hoping it will just go away!)
I say we all "officially" unite-
the "quiet" Christians, the atheists & the agnostics- against the fruitcake fundamentalists. I am SICK of "happy clappy" baloney.
When are the fruitcakes going to figure out that even the best of friends don't agree about EVERYTHING, just accept that people have different opinions and move on- quit trying the control the universe, internet, etc. ad finitum????
For goodnes sake go and have yourself a facefull of birthday cake and a few quiet sherbets and I promise you, the world will look like a much brigher and sunnier place in the morning :)
(actually, it won't ... I was just trying to make you feel better !!)
Happy Birthday you old bastard :)
@trina corina
I'm not atheist or agnostic but would love to live in your commune.
In Tuscany wow!
and most of the time I am a good conversationalist so hopefully that an be my redeeming quality!
Happy birthday, even if I am a bit late...:)
Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. I think the lack of direction in the new job as well as having to learn about 20 years of organisational history is draining my spark.
On the Myspace thing. It comes down to money doesn't it. The Christian right has the money and connections to do this.
About the only thing that we can do is publicise it and get the info out there.
@ Trina
I like the idea of the monestary as well, can I take my new PS3?
@donna,
Maybe we need to start a social networking site for those interested in Faith and Secular dialogue :)
@OZ
I read your post mate, some good ideas.
@Plonka,
Cheers mate, If I not around for a couple of days its because I am attempting to connect my PS3 to the internet.
Sean-
When you get "undrained" feeling, let's talk about it. Why is there no "direction" @ the new job?? As you cull thru the organisational history, are you finding/suspecting
that's the way it's always been?
Just wait til you are an old geezer, like moi. That's why "forgetting" my age is such a boost. When people ask me, I honestly don't know!!
Oh, and another totally STUPID thing: the "church"(??) of Scientology????? I knew something was nutter about Tom Cruise when he
evidently thought he had a medical
degree and proclaimed HIS medical
protocol for Brooke Shields. Then I found he goes to the "church" of
7(?) levels of Money, the (almost)
ultimate God. Hmm...I don't recall that bunch doing any good for anyone in the world except: themselves.
Happy Belated Birthday Sean!!!!!
This year will be awesome, just wait and see.
As to the world, it's been going to hell in a handbasket for years. It's not there yet, and won't get there tomorrow so fuck-it! Find happiness in the now!
ohhhhh that is soooooo zen!!!!
Donna,
Cheers and thanks for the offer.
Without being too specific about the job, I feel as though I am having to soak up too much info and don;t really feel like I am achieving anything
Happy belated birthday buddy...
It's mine today.
I guess we are both Aquariums :)
Happy birthday a bit late.
Hi Sean, I see the MySpace group is back online. I don't know if our community had anything to do with it, but it was interesting to see so many people blogging and commenting about the one thing at the same time.
Oz,
Yeah, I don't know if the atheist community had anything to do with it. I think it may have just been a case of poor communication on behalf of Myspace techs in relation to what they were doing to fix the problem.
Protium,
Thanks and happy Birthday to you too.
Fiery,
I agree this year's going to be fantastic.
Wishing you a belated happy birthday Sean, and hope you have many hours of fun with the new PS3and a great new year on your journey around the sun :-D
Aww you have my son's birthday, or rather, he has yours! =) Happy Belated Birthday!
Hey Sean, Belated happy birthday.
I saw this story too...kind of chaps my hide to tell you the truth.
Thumper,
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I hope you looked after that man of yours on his Birthday.
Might see you next week if you are in Perth?
@ambitious,
Wish your son a Happy birthday from me as well. An thanks for visiting.
@atheistic,
Yeah, it appears as though it might have been a storm in a tea cup. The group has been returned.
Just poor communication on the part of Myspace.
Or maybe that's what they want us to believe ;)
Or, MAYBE someone @ MySpace decided if they were going to be
a "public" forum place, they couldn't really let nutter fundies,
other faiths "in" and keep atheists
"out".
Ha-Ha-ha- I'm just happy, happy today, as the cheater New England
Patriots that cheated their way to
the Super Bowl LOST last night!! They've apparently been cheating for several yrs., and this is just
one case of "Unassisted Justice"- they finally got what they deserve-
NOTHING last nite. Now really, how
could you've called yourselves winners with a record of 19-0 if you CHEATED to get it?????
I don't see why we can't have a couple of nice Mac's and a new PS3 in the monastery. We'd have to maintain a couple of luxuries... right?
@Donna-I was so happy I posted about the game. something that just isn't normal for me!
@trina corina-I AM SO THERE!!!!
WM-
Boy, you KNOW alot about football,
you can "talk" it!! I tried to "get it", but it's just too many rules to remember, I gave up @ laces out- I thought they meant take your shoelaces out, for some reason. . .
Yeah, Tom Brady is good looking, but when I heard about the cheating & how it's apparently been going on for couple of yrs., he doesn't look so good now. Uh,
he's the QB, he HAD to know it was
going on.
Call me picky/snooty, but I don't care how good looking/rich you are-when you have no/very little integrity, I'm "done".
Brady would be one of those sports
figure "examples" to show your kids
how NOT to emulate.
I'd much rather lose a game honestly & walk away knowing I'd tried MY BEST instead of taking the
shortcut of cheating & "win".
Hey Sean, we'll be here matey, dont think we'll escape again till next xmyth!!!
Lets all get together, when are you arriving? how long are you here for? is it for work or hols? is your wife coming?...so many questions ha :-D ...we can celebrate yours and Protiums birthdays all over again...haha I think Protes is still recovering from his...he had a great day though, much eating and very much drinking and making himself merry lol along with everyone else too :)
@thumper,
I will be in Perth for work but should have my nights pretty much free. I will be arriving Monday and leaving Saturday. I have saved the address of your shop on google maps.
So I will be there next week, a party sounds good, I am a very cheap drunk so cheap that a 5 year old could probably drink me under the table.
The wife is staying Home - she will be left with the cats and I will get 5 nights of glorious uninterrupted sleep.
Sean thats great, what night suits you? We could meet up at the shop and then stroll to the local pub which has a comfy beer garden for a nice meal and drinks and some great getting to know you woo hoo :-D
Almost any night is good for me Monday might be a struggle after a 3 hour fight and work all day. I will keep in touch as it gets closer and I have more of an idea what we are doing with work.
HAHA "might be a struggle after a 3 hour fight and work all day."
3 hours of fighting whew....:)
Any night is probably ok for us, any other night we'll just be falling in a heap!:-/
Looking forward to it!!
Not surprising. With News Corp/Murdoch/GOP/Conservative/Christian owning Myspace, it's a wonder it was allowed back.
Oh and happy belated!
@thumper,
That was supposed to be "flight"
Just teasing :-D cos it sounded hilarious having to fight your way across the skies.
The flight to perth is three hours, without any movies,there could well be fighting.
Yes thats true...but you could always snooze the 3 hours and miss all the fighting ;-D
@ T&A,
thanks for the birthday wishes
