Thanks to Plonka for picking up this story from the Age - They sort help... and They prayed to cast Satan... . The stories cover the alleged actions of Mercy Ministries an offshoot of the Hillsong Megachurch, in providing prayer, exorcism and house arrest instead of proper medical care and counselling by qualified personnel. Mercy Ministries allegedly offered a free service for which they encouraged participants to pay for through donations from their Centrelink accounts. All in all it reads like typical cult modus operandi only this cult has entangled itself with the welfare sector.
It looks like there will be an investigation though I think other pressure should be brought to bear, perhaps a boycott of Gloria Jeans ( a sponsor, and heavily involved with Hillsong).

Well, I never did like Gloria Jeans coffee much (it's dirt water, seriously), so it shouldn't be to difficult...
Ever since I heard about Mercy Ministries and Gloria Jeans involvement I have refused to drink there and I have difficulty explaining why to anyone who asks - donating money to a group of people who harm when they are supposed to help is stupidity.
I say do you want the long story or the short. In short Gj supports a religious facility that abuses the mentally ill.
