Poor Peter Irvine, "If I say it's true it's true - goddamit!"

images We have what amounts to an advertisement for Mercy Ministries in the story penned by Peter Irvine - On a mercy mission to rescue lives in today's smh online.  At least half the story is a rehash of what Mercy Ministries is or does.  Trust me Peter, those of us who have been following the story know what services Mercy Ministries supplies and the manner in which it supplies them.

Again there are rather stringent denials of involvement with Hillsong.  Mr Irvine states that,

Mercy Ministries is not owned or run by Hillsong Church. Hillsong, along with other churches, organisations and individuals, makes annual donations to our work. Like any other not-for-profit organisation, we do seek the support of sponsors, which include Gloria Jean's Coffees.

Well Peter I believe you(being gullible here), there is may be no financial or legal  link but you are or were a Hillsong member and the girls are required by your program to attend the Hillsong church (in preference to their own if they are already Christian). See here, you say so yourself:

17. Can a young woman continue to attend her own church while in the program?

No this is not possible as each Mercy Ministries home has a local church that the young women attend as a group with program staff each week. If young women are involved in another church we encourage them to keep in contact and attend during weekend leave.

[soucre:  Mercy Ministries website]

And that local church just happens to be Hillsong? Is it pure coincidence( or divine will, in you belief system)that they just happen to share your opinions on Jesus and the lesbian scourge?

So essentially Hillsong has outsourced the recruitment of young, mentally unwell women to you.  You deprive them of any social structure, but that which they will find at Hillsong - nice.  Once these girls have finished the program they are unlikely to leave the church as it has become part of a supportive but conditional social network.

But on to the real gist of your story, that being that Mercy Ministries works, that you are indeed rescuing lives.  Cry me a  river and cue the wistful looking teen, with the spunky hairdo.

Where are the facts, in black and white?  Where are your exit interview stats (and where is the government regulator?).  Neither Mercy Ministries International (operating for 25 years) nor yourselves (operating for 8?) can produce any figures.

Surely you would do yearly reviews, look into those cases that don't work and work out why?  This is standard in education and I would have thought in mental health it was essential.  But no, as demonstrated by your comments in the media, failure  is the fault of these young women.  Are you so blinded by faith as to assume that because they program is christian/biblically based that it will work and is perfect as is?

Well Peter put up or shut the hell up!

So you can trot out one success, personally I am surprised there aren't more happy clappy girls for Jesus just begging to stand up for you.

Show us the figures that demonstrate your success with eating disorders - because frankly I can't take your word for it, there are just too many liars for Jesus.

Happy Easter.

What's interesting is that in light of this whistle-blowing expose/scandal, the corporate giants have attempted to disassociate themselves, which only makes them look desperate and deceptive.

According to Peter Irvine, the program is fine and although some won't like it, it's for their own good. Mercy Ministries isn't the problem, it's the girls at fault....they're mentally defective, lying, using propaganda to tarnish the organisation. Oh wait, that's what he's doing!

He claims there are no legal/financial ties, but that is a lie. All three organisations leads/boards of directors, etc. are interconnected, so it's laughable they're trying to dissociate from the negative press they are receiving. I would think the close ties connecting all three organisations would speak for itself.

Who are we going to believe...the money-grubbing CEO doing damage control, or the girls (who haven't received a single cent for their interviews) who are speaking out and exposing the facade Mercy hides behind?

I found Peter Irvine's language in the today tonight expose revealing.

He says they have a program that works - but doesn't provide evidence. He states that they won't change the program just becasue a few don't like it. This isn't coffee we are talkning about. This is peoples lives, their mental health. If you "program" isn't working then you should be reviewing it reviewing why MERCY HAS FAILED - but no this is biblically sanctioned treatment and is perfect.

Peter Irvine's commercial background , is there anything in it including education or professional training that defends the assertion he is any more than an opportunist and maybe a christian jihaddist, learning from his years of involvement with McDonalds? Hillsong's already franchised, isn't it?

Something worth looking into. I would suspect that there are a lot of "self made men" out ther in Business. An opportunist - definitely. Interesting that he appears to have stepped out of the spotlight.
